Growing up in the Hungarian community of New Brunswick, NJ, Melissa Pepin developed a deep appreciation for Hungarian motifs and traditions. Her latest body of work, the Kezimunka series, reflects her passion for found-object art and bold graphics. In this series, she focuses on a strikingly large, hand-embroidered doily, using its floral imagery as a source of inspiration. Distilling the motifs to their essence, she reimagines and paints them onto expansive canvases, blending the traditional forms with a fresh, contemporary energy.
