Hungarian motifs lie at the heart of my artistic practice, threading their way through painting, drawing, photography, and printmaking. My process often begins with found or gifted objects—items steeped in history and memory—which I reinterpret through a contemporary lens. These everyday materials become delicate, expressive forms shaped by heritage and personal vision.
From autumn 2024 through winter 2025, my focus centered on a single, oversized hand-embroidered doily. Its richly detailed floral imagery became a foundation for transformation. I distilled the motifs and reimagined them on large-scale canvases, manipulating their forms to blend seamlessly into painterly compositions. The result is a visual language that honors tradition while breathing new energy into it.
In spring 2025, this exploration expanded to include a recycled antique Hungarian folktale books. Using soy-based ink, I printed and hand-cut floral elements from its pages, then assembled them into a companion suite of works using both hand and machine sewing techniques. These pieces function in dialogue with the paintings, offering a layered, textural interpretation of similar themes.
This body of work is a reflection of my cultural inheritance—an interplay of memory, craft, and innovation. My past projects have incorporated self-portraiture, found and donated objects, and resist-based techniques in papermaking and printmaking. Each material becomes part of the story.
Ultimately, my work seeks to honor the intricate beauty of Hungarian folk tradition while reimagining it in a contemporary context—where thread becomes line, paper becomes fabric, and history becomes art. -Tradition Reimagined.
